Canada Day 2011

1st July and Canada day, also known to Heather as race day, three of us registered, Mum for the 8KM FUN !!! run and Heather and Finlay for the obstical course for under six's. Unfortunately Dad was not around to help with the double stroller relief as he had been 2 years ago and last year I only did the 3 KM with the stroller. So I was unsure how it was going to go for the full distance, bearing in mind that the kids are not that little any more!!!
So early morning lunch and snacks made, change of clothes, camera, stroller and kids all ready and then the kids wanted their face painted...race time 9AM

The run went well and we had a lot of encouragement as we ran through the course. The kids did well and egging me on and as we pushed up the occasional hill  and as we passed  people Heather called out " Ha ha, slow coach!!" This was innocent to her as we often shout this to each other while out for a family bike ride, however I had to explain race etiquette and that in a race we shout "Good job, keep going !!!". At the last finishing stretch I got the kids out and they helped push the stroller across the finish line and they felt pretty proud of that.
After a quick snack with friends all the kids were set for their race.

Next up was the obstical course for each age group and the kids had a blast, just have a look at Finlay's face.

 Through things.

under things.

 big finish under the parachute.
 ...again...through things
 ..under things...
 ..across things..
The big finish.

All in all they had a great time and then it was time to take in the local Canada Day Parade with lots of bands, horses, entertainment and candy.
