After an early morning trip to Calgary to stand for the parade and get a fleeting glimps of William and Kate as hey drove by at 20km/hr we left the warm sunny skies of Calgary and as we drove back to the mountains for our camping trip the winds rose and the temperature dropped to 5 c as we pulled into our camp site. We had barely taken enough clothes as we had enjoyed a week of warm sunny weather. However as per tradition of our holidays, we yet again arrived in a storm. The kids didn't seem to mind the cold and were refusing to bundle up and they enjoyed a cozy night under layers of blankets.
The next morning the kids enjoyed riding their bikes around the campsite and I was glad that Heather took me up on the offer for a 5 minute practice on her bike, which turned into an hour and ended up with us all going a bike ride together, each on our own bike. You see Heather has been reluctant to ride her bike for a couple of weeks now since she was becoming really confident but then rode into the side of our neighbours truck!! and that put her off riding. But she is back on and doing well. Finlay has become very attached to the run bike and enjoyed doing the whoop de loops at the side of the road, just like the big boys.
We road to the camp shop and enjoyed cold ice cream on a cool summer day and then headed to a "Creepy Crawlie" talk in the campsite. We learned all about insects and other animals, how to find them, we were able to catch our own creepy crawlie and have a good close up look at it and try to identify it. Many mosquitoes wer involved too!!
Later that night we went for an evening adventure and thought we would have a look at the lake front and let the kids play. It was a beautiful evening and Heather and Finlay enjoyed throwing stones and playing with sticks. Soon they wanted to go to the play park and as we made our way back to the campsite we looked up to see 2 conservation officers with radio transmitters waving us to come to them, no shouting, no speaking , just big slow arm movements to come towards them. Something else was down by the lake.
When we got to them they explained that there was a grizzly bear and her two cubs that they were trying to get to move down the valley away from the campsite. She wasn't aggressive, but if someone accidentally got between her and her cubs then things could be different, so they had everybody's safety in mind. They were waiting to see if they could get an exact location and then they would position the bear dog behind her to bark and encourage her to move away.
When you go down to the lake today....

The next day the sun finally came out and we all enjoyed the heat, Dad was excited to launch the canoe for the first time this year and Finlay felt quite at home in it, even when we stopped for lunch.
