Junior Cohoe
Heather has joined the Canmore Junior Cohoe swim club and has the opportunity to swim 3 times a week. However we have managed twice a week so far, taking into consideration other commitments that arise like camping trips, birthday parties and work schedules.
Her swimming has improved immensely in the 4 weeks that she has been swimming. They begin with 15 mins of "dry land training" and then they are in the pool for an hour from 4-5pm. I don't even think, or should I say, I know that I don't swim for that length of time when I go to the pool!!
Our little Mermaid.
Last weekend was the Cohoe Fun meet. This was a fun morning of swimming and racing followed by a pot luck brunch. The objective was to remind the swimmers of the important rules of swim racing and to prepare them for the racing season ahead. The juniors were invited along to have a go too, not that she will be racing this year.
However it was great fun to learn the rules of marshaling a swim race and I even learned to time the races.
I was even able to time Heather's 25 m free style. While standing at the other end of the pool I could see the other three girls preparing at the side of the pool, while Heather stood on the diving block. I could see one of the marshals talking to her and obviously asking her if she was comfortable starting from there and she stayed. I am at the other end thinking to myself,"what the heck is she doing!!". Well she prepared herself and then went for the big jump!!! Landed the belly flop and then continued to complete the 25 m freestyle in 49 seconds!!
Flutter board 25 m 57 secs
Team raft race. Juniors enjoying the ride.
